Ichiban Sushi (West Mall)
About This Spot
Walking into Ichiban Sushi at West Mall, you’re greeted by a quiet, inviting space that tips its hat to timeless Japanese dining. The layout flows generously, allowing you to settle in without feeling crowded, whether you’re nestled near the soft greenery by the window or tucked further inside where the hum of quiet conversation blends with the subtle clinking of dishes. It’s a spot where the pace slows just enough to savour a meal without rush, yet stays lively enough to feel welcoming and unpretentious.
This isn’t a sushi bar that dazzles with flash; it’s one that comforts through familiarity and care. The sashimi arrives as a gentle reminder of skilled craftsmanship, each cut precise and fresh, inviting you to linger over the delicate textures. Plates of crispy salmon skin or the comforting warmth of a Kitsune Udon bowl quietly do their part to ground the meal in approachable, everyday joy.
Behind its steady rhythm is a team attuned to the flow of the dining room, balancing attentiveness without imposing on the calm. It’s easy to see why local families find themselves returning here — the spacious seating and thoughtful service set the stage for unhurried meals and shared moments. The occasional wait for a dish feels less like a nuisance and more like an invitation to pause, sip a drink, and soak up the surroundings.
Ichiban Sushi at West Mall feels like the reliable friend in your neighborhood’s dining scene: familiar without dullness, quietly confident without pretense, and ready to welcome you as you are. Whether it’s a simple weekday lunch or a casual evening bite, it’s a place that values the small intimacies of a satisfying meal shared over good food and understated hospitality.

Quite a spacious outlet which has more seating than expected once you go further into the store. As I remember, this outlet has been around in west mall for quite a long time and glad it’s still around. Whilst the stuff isn’t exactly cheap, it’s not too bad for the quality and service. That said, some of the dishes we ordered took some time to arrive and the sushi’s on the conveyor belt were not refreshed much through our time there. We came around dinner time on a Sunday and there was no queue. Nice booth seats and overall good for Japanese cravings.

Family favourite, good service and good portion of food. Spacious seats. Stamp rewards system that might give you free meal quarterly.

I quite enjoyed the quiet part of the restaurant and the greens outside the restaurant windows. The sashimi chef was really professional and the cut was perfect. Ordered two different sashimi and both of them tasted amazing.

Good food & excellent service. Chasoba noodle bit hard, the rest taste good, very crispy fried salmon skin

Ichiban Sushi is one of my favorite spots! The service is quick and attentive, ensuring you’re never left waiting long. The sushi itself is delicious, with fresh ingredients and a solid selection. It’s a reliable place for a satisfying meal. I’d love to see a few more creative rolls on the menu, but overall, it’s a fantastic dining experience!

Had the Unagi Bento at Ichiban Sushi (West Mall) and it was a satisfying, well-balanced meal overall. The unagi was nicely glazed, tender, and flavourful with a good balance of sweetness and smokiness, pairing very well with the steamed rice. I also appreciated the variety in the bento set — from the light chawanmushi to the crispy tempura and comforting miso soup, everything came together as a complete Japanese meal. Portion size was filling and presentation was neat, making it a dependable choice for a proper sit-down dinner. While the flavours were generally enjoyable, a slightly more generous portion of unagi or a bit more depth in seasoning would elevate it further. Still, a solid and reliable option for Japanese comfort food. Would return again.

As we celebrated Diwali with friends, booking a seat was surprisingly easy due to the massive outflow of locals travelling out of the country. Despite the bustling dinner crowd and an obviously short-handed team, the staff who were on duty still did their best to meet our needs. I do wish that Ichiban Bosses would understand that going digital doesn’t mean cutting down on staff. Maintaining adequate manpower ensures that customers can not only order their favorite Japanese dishes efficiently but also enjoy the full dining experience and service they deserve. After all, we do pay service charges. Hopefully, on our next visit, we’ll experience more complete and efficient service. However, overall, we enjoyed a pleasant Diwali dinner.
